ACT TWO

INT. WAI-YI’S HOTEL - DAY - LATER

Warren is waving his arms in the air, one at a time, as energy dances around his fists.  Wai-Yi watches, no emotion, all business.

                          WARREN
So, I can do anything I want, right?
As long as I don’t kill her?

                          WAI-YI
That is correct.  If you kill her, I
             shall be...displeased.

                          WARREN
And you’re sure that I can take her?
She was the biggest bad ass on this side
of the globe last time I saw her.

                          WAI-YI
Oh, yes.  You will be able to take her
             quite nicely.

Warren looks at his flaming hand and then grins evilly, his eyes shining with anticipation.

                          WARREN
             Good.  I like taking.

EXT. WILLOW’S OFFICE - DAY

Willow is walking to her office.  Warren is following.  He has a camera.  As Willow tries to get her keys out of her bag, Warren is snapping photos from a distance.  A figure comes up and joins Willow.  Warren lowers the camera, looking surprised.  He looks back through the lens and zooms in on Andrew.

                    WARREN
Well, well.  Sleeping with the enemy,
             are we, Andrew?

INT. WILLOW’S OFFICE - DAY

Willow and Andrew are hard at work, fixing computers and such.  Willow stops for moment and touches a picture of Sara that she has on her desk.  The phone rings.

                          WILLOW
             Computer Magic, this is Willow.
                  (smiles widely)
Hey, Sara.  You must be psychic.  I was
             just thinking about you.
                  (listens)
Sure.  No problem.  I’ll pick up something
and meet you outside Ellie’s.  See you in
             a bit.

Willow hangs up the phone then gathers her belongings into her purse.  She turns toward Andrew’s desk, but he’s not there.

                          WILLOW
                  (calling to the back)
I’m going to meet Sara for lunch.  I’ll
             be back later.

                          ANDREW (O.S.)
             Okay!

EXT. WILLOW’S OFFICE - DAY

Willow comes out of her office and heads down the street, tailed by Warren.

EXT. ELLIE’S DINER - FROM WARREN’S WATCHING SPOT - DAY

Warren watches as Willow comes down the street toward the diner.  She’s carrying a big brown lunch sack.

Warren sees Willow meet Sara, who’s standing in front of the diner.  When the two women embrace, Warren’s eyes narrow.  Warren looks through his camera, zooms in on Sara.

                          WARREN
             What the hell?

Warren starts snapping.

EXT. ELLIE’S DINER - DAY

When Willow and Sara pull out of their hug, they are both smiling happily.

                          SARA
Thank you so much for coming.  I had to get
out of there, even if it is only for thirty
             minutes.

                          WILLOW
You’re welcome.  I was glad to do it.  I
             wanted to see you.

                          SARA
I wanted to see you too.  Let’s go down
             to the gazebo.

EXT. THE GAZEBO - DAY

Willow and Sara are sitting in the gazebo, finishing up the sandwiches that Willow picked up on the way.

                          SARA
(eating her last bite of sandwich)
Mmmm.  This was good.  So much better than
Ellie’s fare.  I get so tired of that stuff.

                          WILLOW
I’ll bet.  So, what did you want to see me
             about?

                          SARA
Can’t I just want to see you?

                          WILLOW
Well, yeah, sure you can.  I just thought,
well, you seemed like maybe, you had
             something to say...

Sara doesn’t answer, she just lets Willow ramble, all the while smiling at her.

                          WILLOW
             What?

                          SARA
You are so cute when you babble.

                          WILLOW
             Stop that.  You’re embarrassing me.

                          SARA
Okay.  Come on, let’s start back.  I don’t
want to give Chad another reason to be on my
             case.

                          WILLOW
             Okay.

Willow and Sara start cleaning up their lunch remains.

                          SARA
You’re right, though.  I do have
something to talk to you about.

                          WILLOW
             I knew it!
                  (off Sara’s you’re-interrupting look)
             Sorry.  You were saying?

They finish cleaning up and start back towards Ellie’s.

                          SARA
I’ve been thinking about what you said last
night, about moving in with you.  And...I
think I want to...as long as we start slow,
you know, like you said...that is, if you
             still want me to.

Sara stops and looks at Willow shyly but expectantly.

                          WILLOW
                  (plays coy)
             Hmmm...let me think about it.
                  (off Sara’s look of surprise)
Just kidding!  Of course, I want you
to, silly!  I love having you there.  I love
being with you.  I...I love you, Sara.

                          SARA
             I love you too, Willow.

                          WILLOW
                  (twirling her hands nervously)
             You do?

                          SARA
                  (taking Willow’s hand in hers)
             Yes.

                          WILLOW
             Oh thank goodness!

                          SARA
             You sound surprised.
                  (they resume walking, still
                   holding hands)
             You didn’t suspect?

                          WILLOW
I hoped.  But what happened between us
happened so fast, I just wasn’t sure.

They arrive at the edge of Ellie’s.  They turn and face one another.  They smile sweetly at each other.

                          WILLOW
             I better let you go.

                          SARA
             Yeah, you better.

                          WILLOW
             See you tonight?

                          SARA
                  (smiling even bigger)
             Absolutely.

EXT. ELLIE’S DINER - FROM WARREN’S WATCHING SPOT - DAY

Warren watches as Willow walks off down the street, leaving Sara smiling and waving.  Warren snaps a few more pictures.  When he lowers the camera, his face is full of cold rage.

INT. WAI-YI’S HOTEL - DAY

Wai-Yi is sitting at the table, enjoying a cup of tea. The sound of Warren materializing occurs.  Suddenly, a large photo is plopped rudely on the table in front of Wai-Yi.  The photo features Sara outside Ellie’s Diner.

                          WARREN
What the freak is this?  I go to hell for
killing Red’s girlfriend, and she’s still
             alive?

                          WAI-YI
She is not the one you killed.  She is her
             twin.

                          WARREN
             Her twin?

                          WAI-YI
             Yes.  Her name is Sara.

                          WARREN
That bitch is sicker than I thought.

Wai-Yi picks up the picture of Sara, looks at it for a moment, then passes it to Warren.

                          WAI-YI
She is the key, of course. Like her sister.

Warren’s look of disgust quickly changes to evil delight as he takes in Wai-Yi’s implication.

                          WARREN
                  (drawing the word out)
             Right.

INT. THE MALL - KIDS’ CORNER - DAY

Willow is walking near the kids’ play area.  She’s carrying a small bag from Things Remembered.  Willow sits down on a nearby bench.

She looks into her bag and pulls out a box.  She opens the box and removes a beautiful silver key chain.  The key chain is engraved with Sara’s name.

Then she pulls out another item from her purse, a newly cut house key.  She carefully puts the new key on the silver ring, then she holds it up and admires her handiwork.

Willow smiles deeply.  She puts everything away and then rises to leave.  She picks up her belongings and walks away from the bench.

After Willow has walked only a few feet, Warren is suddenly before her, grabbing her arms.

                          WARREN
             Guess who’s back?

Willow’s face explodes in terror as she rips out of his grip and backs away from him.

                          WILLOW
             Oh, god!  Warren!

                          WARREN
That’s right, baby.  Did you miss me?

                          WILLOW
             Stay away from me!

Willow starts to power up, her right hand glowing with energy.  Warren makes a uhn-uhn-uhn sound and shakes his finger in the air.

                          WARREN
             Too many innocent bystanders.  Besides,
I’m not looking for a fight.  At least
             not yet.

Warren begins backing away from Willow.

                          WARREN
I just wanted to let you know that I’d
             be seeing you.  Real soon.

Willow watches him go, panting in her panic.

INT. WILLOW’S OFFICE - DAY

Willow bursts into her office, white as a sheet, obviously very upset.

                          WILLOW
             Andrew!  Andrew!

                          ANDREW (O.S.)
I’m coming!  Keep your britches on!

Andrew enters from the back, irritated at being yelled at.

                          ANDREW
             What?

Willow is still shaking.

                          WILLOW
             Andrew...oh god...

Willow’s legs start to give out.  Andrew rushes to Willow’s side and guides her to a chair.

                          ANDREW
What is it?  You’re shaking like a leaf.

Andrew is leaning over slightly with his hand on Willow’s shoulder.

                          WILLOW
Andrew...I don’t know how to say
             this...I...I just saw Warren.

Andrew looks completely shocked.

                          ANDREW
             What?

                          WILLOW
Warren.  I just saw Warren...at the mall.

Andrew continues to look totally shocked as he backs up, loses his footing, and crashes to the ground, his back against the wall or desk.

                          ANDREW
Warren?  Are you sure?  M-m-maybe it
             was just The First again?

                          WILLOW
No, it wasn’t The First.  He touched me,
             grabbed my arm.

                          ANDREW
But how -- how is that possible?  You
             crispy-fried him straight to hell!

                          WILLOW
             I know, I know.  But it’s him.  And he’s
not back for a social call.

EXT. WILLOW’S OFFICE, NEARBY STREETS, ANDREW’S APT - NIGHT

Andrew leaves the office and heads home.  He is extremely nervous, looking over his shoulder often, jumping at sudden sounds or movements.

Finally, Andrew gets to his apartment building.  He rushes up the outside stairs to his door.  He fumbles with the keys desperately, but eventually gets inside.

INT. ANDREW’S APARTMENT - NIGHT

Andrew leans back against his door and lets his breath out.  He stands up straight and walks into his apartment.  Only to find Warren sitting on his couch.

                          ANDREW
             Oh, god...

                          WARREN
             Hello, Andrew.

INT. WILLOW’S HOUSE - THE BEDROOM - NIGHT

Willow and Sara are in bed together.  They are dressed for bed, but are sitting up talking.  Sara is holding her new key.

                          SARA
Thanks for my new key chain.  I love it.
             Oh, and the key, too.

                          WILLOW
I’m glad you like it.  Now you can come and
go whenever you want.  Of course,
             personally...
                  (leans over, nuzzles Sara’s neck)
I hope there’s more coming than going...

                          SARA
             Is that so?

                          WILLOW
             Absolutely.

Willow and Sara kiss several times, then settle into a comfy hug, with Willow laying her head in Sara’s lap and Sara stroking Willow’s hair and back.  Willow’s face is content for a moment, then her brow furrows as her thoughts apparently move to less pleasant topics.  Sara seems to pick up on Willow’s mood change.

                          SARA
So...this Warren guy.  You want to tell me
more about him?  Since you’re dead set on
             worrying about him?

                          WILLOW
How did you know I was thinking about him?

                          SARA
I don’t know.  I could just sense it,
             I guess.

                          WILLOW
Tara could do that, too...sense stuff about
             people.

Willow thinks a moment, then begins frowning again.

                          SARA
And Warren took her away from you.

                          WILLOW
             Yes.

Willow sits up, separating herself from Sara.

                          WILLOW
But that’s not the worst part of
             this story.

                          SARA
                  (truly confused)
             It isn’t?

                          WILLOW
The worst part is what happened
             afterwards.

Willow looks away from Sara and stares at her hands, unable to meet her eyes or speak.  Sara reaches out and touches Willow’s hand.

                          SARA
Whatever it is, you can tell me.

                          WILLOW
You know how I told you that I had an
             addiction problem with the magic?

                          SARA
             With the black magic, yeah.

                          WILLOW
When it got really bad, Tara left me.
             Tough love and all that.

Willow paused and looked away again.

                          WILLOW
I got worse after she left.  I got so
bad I ending up hurting Dawnie.

                          SARA
             Buffy’s little sister?

                          WILLOW
Yeah.  I realized then how far I had sunk,
and I begged Buffy to help me.  Thank god,
             she didn’t walk away.

Willow gets a little choked up.  Sara squeezes Willow’s hand to give her courage.

                          WILLOW
I went through some bad withdrawal, and
once I came out of that, I had to learn to
live without the magic.  I joined a support
group.  Sunnydale actually had a support
group for magic addiction, can you believe
             that?  Spellcasters Anonymous.  We never
             did find a better name.

Willow laughs softly, remembering the ridiculous title of her support group.  Sara chuckles with her.

                          WILLOW
Anyway.  I got better.  Tara and I started
speaking again.  We even had a “friendly”
coffee date.  The next thing I knew, she was
at my room, and we kissed, and it was
             like...

                          SARA
             She had never left?

                          WILLOW
             Yes.  But then...
                  (choking up, then recovering)
We had less than a day together before...
             before Warren’s shooting rampage took
her from me.  Just like that!  In the
blink of an eye, she was gone.  A bullet
             through her heart.

Willow stops, tears streaming down her face.

                          SARA
             What happened next?

                          WILLOW
I fell off the wagon, big time.  I went
absolutely insane.  I called up every
essence of black magic I could get my hands
on, and I tracked Warren down, and I...

                          SARA
             Killed him?

                          WILLOW
Yes.  But I tortured him first.  Then I
ripped his skin off his body in one big
jerk.  And then I incinerated him.

                          SARA
             Oh my god!

                          WILLOW
Oh, I didn’t stop there, though!  I decided
Warren’s two buddies were guilty by
association, and I went after them.  Then,
when my friends intervened, trying to save
me from myself, I almost killed them, too.

Sara pulls away and sits in shock, listening to Willow’s confession.  Willow hangs her head in shame.

                          WILLOW
In fact, I almost destroyed the world.  I
was so juiced, I could feel everyone’s pain,
the anguish of the whole world.  I was so
mad with grief, I...I just wanted to end it
             all.  And I almost did.

Sara has her head down when Willow chances a look in her direction.  Willow imagines that Sara is completely repulsed by her now.  Willow rises from the bed and goes to her chest of drawers, standing with her back to Sara.

                          WILLOW
So now you know.  You’re dating a murderer.
A black magic addict who almost destroy --

Willow’s words of self-hatred are cut off when Sara turns Willow around and kisses her with all her heart.  Willow starts to cry, and Sara pulls Willow into her arms.

                          WILLOW
             I’m so afraid!

                          SARA
             It’s okay.  It’ll be okay.

They separate, but still hold each other.  Sara touches Willow’s cheek.

                          SARA
We’ll get through this.  You and me.

INT. WILLOW’S OFFICE - DAY

Willow enters the office and turns on the lights.  She drops her bag on her desk, covering a manila envelope sitting there.  She turns on her computers then moves to the back room and makes a pot of coffee.

She comes back to her desk with a steaming cup of caffeine.  She opens her bag and pulls out her laptop and sets it aside.  Then she puts her bag under her desk.  When she sits up from that, she notices the manila envelope.

The envelope is large and has her name neatly hand-printed on it in red marker.  She looks at it puzzled.

                          WILLOW
             What’s this?

She turns the envelope over and opens it.  Inside she finds an 8 X 10 photo.  She pulls it out and looks at it.  A look of utter horror crosses Willow’s face.

                          WILLOW
             Oh my god!  Sara!

Willow drops the picture and rushes out of the office.

The picture shows Sara in front of Ellie’s Diner.  Warren has drawn a big red bull’s eye right over Sara’s heart.
